Ascites and Pleural Effusion

Ascites is a condition where fluid builds up in the belly, causing it to swell. In cancer, this can happen when cancer cells spread to the lining of the abdomen or block the normal flow of fluid. The body normally makes a small amount of fluid to help things move smoothly inside the belly, but when cancer is present, it can cause too much fluid to collect.
This can lead to symptoms like a swollen or tight feeling in the stomach, pain, trouble eating, and shortness of breath. It’s more common in certain cancers, like ovarian, liver, stomach, and colon cancer. Doctors can remove the fluid to help the person feel better, but if the cancer is advanced, the fluid may keep coming back.
So, ascites is often a sign that the cancer has spread or is affecting how the body handles fluid.
Pleural Effusion is the same as Ascites except it’s the ascites is in the lungs cavity and same treatment as in drainage.
Usually with Ascites the Albumin levels are low.
Albumin is a protein and this diverts fluid to where it needs to be in the body, however, when it’s low, it passes through the vessels and usually settles in the abdomen.
When albumin is below 4, it leaks and causes ascites.
There are Albumin infusions that a Doctor gives to raise albumin levels.
Keep your protein above 7.0 and albumin above 4.0

When fluid is removed from the body, essential proteins are often lost along with it. This can create a difficult cycle—removing fluid reduces protein levels, which then makes the body more likely to accumulate fluid again, requiring further drainage.

For managing ascites, modified citrus pectin (such as Pectasol) can be helpful. The lime-flavored version tends to dissolve better in water. It’s recommended to take one scoop twice daily, but make sure to space it at least two hours away from any medications, since it may interfere with how they’re absorbed.

Including denatured whey protein isolate in your routine—three times per day—can also support protein and albumin levels. Be sure it’s specifically labeled as both denatured (which means it’s easier to digest) and isolate (which ensures a higher purity of protein).
This also applies to Pleural Effusion too.

VEGF is a factor for causing Ascites so blocking this will prevent and treat ascites.
Curcumin blocks VEGF.
Dr Neil McKinney who is a Naturopath Oncologist recommends Ubiquinol COQ10 for Pleural Effusion.

Here are some testimonials from facebook groups:
1. Curcumin reduced Ascites by taking this brand here
2. 200mg Ubiquinol COQ10 a day for a few weeks reduced pleural Effusion
3. COQ10 and it reduced her plural effusion.
4. herb Uva Ursi and potassium tablets reduces ascites (too much potassium can be lethal)
5. Modified Citrus Pectin
Testimonial: “I use the lime because it dissolves easier. Haven’t been drained since I started it. Am and bedtime on empty stomach…”
6. Hi, I had ascites. After 3 years of having to get it drained every 3 weeks, it stopped. I took lots of diuretic herbs as tea and tinctures (such as horsetail and dandelion), had ozone treatment, vitamin c infusions and started walking and exercising more. I think the walking had the most effect. I already ate healthy, lots of fruit and veggies, no processed food.
