Ferroptosis
Ferroptosis was first discovered in 2012 but yet here we are and mainstream medicine is not doing anything in regards to using Ferroptosis to treat cancer.
Ferroptosis is a type of cell death that happens when iron builds up and causes too much fat damage in the cell. It’s different from other ways cells die, like apoptosis (the typical cell death). What makes ferroptosis special is that it depends on iron and oxidative stress — basically, the cell gets overwhelmed by damage from unstable molecules (called free radicals) and can’t repair itself, so it dies.
Iron is the spark that lights the fire
Think of iron like a match in your cells. On its own, it’s not too dangerous — but when there’s a lot of it and there’s something flammable (like damaged fats), it can start a fire.
That “fire” is oxidative stress — when harmful molecules (free radicals) build up and start damaging fats in cell membranes.
Here’s how iron causes ferroptosis:
1. Iron reacts with oxygen in cells (via the Fenton reaction).
2. This creates free radicals — highly reactive molecules.
3. These radicals attack lipids (fats) in the cell membrane.
4. The damage builds up and becomes toxic.
5. The cell can’t handle it — and dies by ferroptosis.
Normally, cells have ways to stop this:
Antioxidants (like glutathione) clean up the radicals.
If those defenses fail (like when cysteine is low), iron becomes deadly.
Simple analogy:
Iron is like gasoline — useful in small amounts, but explosive when there’s a spark and no control. In ferroptosis, that explosion is what kills the cell.
Chelating or reducing iron will prevent Ferroptosis.
Cysteine is a (an amino acid) that your body uses to:
Build proteins
Make glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that protects cells from damage
Cysteine prevents ferroptosis. Here’s how:
Cysteine → makes Glutathione (GSH)
Glutathione → helps an enzyme called GPX4
GPX4 → stops fat damage in cells
If cysteine is missing or blocked:
Glutathione levels drop
GPX4 can’t work
Damaged fats build up
The cell dies by ferroptosis
Cysteine is like the ingredient you need to make fire extinguishers.
No cysteine = no extinguisher = fat fires spread = ferroptosis.
If you block cysteine then you induce Ferroptosis.
Another way to block cystein is blocking xCT
xCT is the nickname for a protein transporter in your cells.
Its full name is SLC7A11, but most people just call it xCT
xCT is like a door or gate that:
Brings in cystine (the oxidized form of cysteine)
Sends out glutamate
Once cystine gets inside, the cell turns it into cysteine.
Methionine is an amino acid mostly abundant in meat and other animal based products and it has a close relationship to all of this.
Methionine → Cysteine → Glutathione
So it is crucial to also block Methionine.
This is the last option which comes down to diet in blocking Methionine.
Plant based diets have very low amounts of Methionine.
There have been spontaneous cancer remissions with plant based diets because of the restriction of this Methionine amino acid which is a precursor to cysteine.
So without Methionine, there’s no cysteine and so therefore Ferroptosis happens.
Here are some articles on these spontaneous remissions in relation to Methionine and Cysteine:

There are drugs and supplements that can produce Ferroptosis. Some of these are:
Sulfasalazine
Artemisinin
Honokiol
Curcumin
High Dose IV Vitamin C (It is said that the antibiotic Doxycycline indirectly induces Ferroptosis and because of this when combine with High Dose IV Vitamin C, it has a more potent therapeutic effect)
Piperlongumine
DHA from fish oil or Algae (The dosage for DHA is 4.06mg/kg, so if you weigh 60kg then you times that by 4.06 and that’s your dosage)
Here is a table list of drugs that induce Ferroptosis
Here is a table list of natural supplements that induce Ferroptosis
Cholesterol reduces the chances of Ferroptosis.
On the drug table list there’s Statin drugs listed and that’s because they lower cholesterol.
Emodin – the compound found in Essiac tea herbs increases xCT so therefore blocks Ferroptosis so if you’re trying to induce Ferroptosis is to stop Essiac tea during this process.
