Flubendazole is an anti-parasitic drug just like Fenbendazole and they way it kills the parasites is by disrupting the microtubules inside the cell. Once you disrupt the microtubule or any other thing inside a cell then that cell can’t function. Same logic applies to cancer cells as cancer cells also have microtubules and when you disrupt them with these anti-parasitic drugs then that cell can’t function so therefore should die. Just an another re-purposed drug in your arsenal.
The most important thing about this drug is that it inhibits PD-1 which is what immunotherapy drugs do.
Because current PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors are antibody drugs given by IV, they carry high treatment costs and frequently yield unpredictable outcomes in second-line settings. Developing small-molecule inhibitors offers a more practical alternative. In melanoma studies, FLU has been shown to downregulate PD-1 expression in tumor cells.
